Shirasagi, a Japanese Restaurant in Den Haag

The Japanese restaurant Shirasagi in the "Stadhouderslaan" in "Den Haag" is one of our favourite restaurants of the city. It is already listed for many years in the Michelin Guide. The interior is modern, simple and somewhat cold. The food is very good. We personally like the Sashimi and the Sushi. Sometimes we also try warm dishes like the King Crab or Wagyu beef. The wagyu is a traditional Japanese high quality beef from massaged cows which makes the meat more tender.

Het Japans restaurant Shirasagi in de Stadshouderslaan in Den Haag is een van onze favoriete restaurants van de stad. Het staat reeds verschillende jaren vermeld in de Michelin Gids. Het interieur is strak en modern, maar ook wat koud. Het eten is zeer lekker. Wij persoonlijk houden van de Sashimi en de Sushi. Soms nemen we ook een warm gerecht zoals de Koningskrab of de Wagyu steak. De Wagyu steak is een traditioneel Japans rundvlees van gemasseerde koeien. Dit maakt het vlees veel malser.

Visit to the Peace Palace, The Hague

With the colleagues from our department we visited the Peace Palace in The Hague. This is the International Court of Justice of the United Nations. The building is owned by the Carnegie Foundation. It holds the Permanent Court of Arbitrations for conflicts between countries or groups against a country. The building was completed in 1913. With the start of the First World War, the court received a lot of criticism because war was contradictory to the goals of this institute. Each member state has contributed to the interior of the building by the means of gifts. The mosaic floor was a gift of France, the gates from Germany, Ming vases from China, a fountain from Denmark, the paintings on the ceilings and the staircases from The Netherlands... It's a pity you are not allowed to take pictures inside the building. It is certainly worth a visit.

Met onze collega's van de afdeling hebben we het Vredespaleis in Den Haag bezocht. Dit is het Internationaal Gerechtshof van de Verenigde Naties. Het gebouw is eigendom van de Carnegie stichting. Hier zetelt het Permanent Hof van Arbitrage voor conflicten tussen landen of groeperingen tegen een individueel land. Het gebouw werd voltooid in 1913. Bij de start van de Eerste Wereldoorlog kreeg dit instituut veel kritiek omdat vrede niet echt mogelijk was tijdens de oorlog. Iedere lidstaat heeft tot het interieur bijgedragen door middel van giften. De mosaieken vloer was een geschenk van Frankrijk, het hek en de ingangspoorten van Duitsland, Ming vazen uit China, een fontein van Denemarken, de schilderijen op het plafond en de trap in de inkomhal kwam van Nederland. Het is spijtig dat je in het gebouw geen foto's mag nemen. Het vredespaleis is zeker een bezoekje waard.
