Basilique Notre-Dame in Montréal

This is our last backlog article of our Canada trip of July. This superb church in Montréal is so special because of its bleu and gold interior. They call this also Basilica the Twin Tower church. You have to pay an entrance fee but it is more than worth a visit.

Dit is ons laatste artikel van onze Canada reis van juli. Deze super kerk uit Montréal is zo speciaal omwille van zijn blauw gouden interieur. Ze noemen deze Basiliek ook de tweeling toren kerk. Je moet inkom betalen maar het is zeker een bezoekje waard.

Cathédrale Marie-Reine-Du-Monde, Montréal

This Cathedral, Mary Queen of the World, is a very impressive and large church. It not a coincidence that this street is named Cathedral street. The church was build in a Neo-Gothic style and dates from 1852. It's a pity that this church is in the same city as the Basilique de Notre-Dame, nothing can compete against this architectural treasure. The altar and the interior of the church are real eye catchers.

Deze kathedraal "Marie-Reine-Du-Monde", is een grote indrukwekkende kerk. Het is geen toeval dat de straat waar ze gevestigd is, "Cathedral Street" is genaamd. De kerk is gebouwd in een neo-gotische stijl en dateert van 1852. Het is spijtig dat ze in dezelfde stad staat als de Basiliek van de Notre-Dame, een kerk buiten competitie, een architecturale schat. Het altaar en interieur van de kerk zijn opmerkelijk.

Lively Chinatown, Montréal

It becomes a fact of live, each major city in the world has his own Chinatown. In Montréal, Chinatown is located around St. Laurent Street. Originally this part of the city was Jewish and people from Hong Kong moved in. Now the community is mainly Chinese and Vietnamese. The total population of Chinatown is estimated around 80.000. It is a colourful and lively area with many restaurants and shops. The entrance of Chinatown is marked with a gate and even the American hotel chain Holiday Inn has mounted pagodas on its rooftop. Applied marketing of the highest level.

Het wordt een vaste waarde, iedere grootstad krijgt zijn eigen Chinatown. In Montréal is Chinatown gelegen rond St. Laurent Street. Oorspronkelijk was dit stadsdeel Joods en immigranten uit Hong Kong hebben zich hier ook gevestigd. Nu is de gemeenschap van ongeveer 80.000 inwoners hoofdzakelijk Chinees en Vietnamees. Het is een zeer kleurrijke wijk met veel winkeltjes en restaurants. De ingang tot Chinatown wordt gekenmerkt door een Chinese poort. Zelf Amerikaanse hotelketens zoals Holiday Inn hebben hier pagodes op hun daken gebouwd. Dit is toegepaste Marketing op het hoogste niveau.

For us, Montréal is a city with real contrasts between the historic and modern era. Old historic houses and monuments stand side by side with modern buildings. The same counts for transportation, a Lamborghini next to a horse and carriage. It doesn't stop with this clash of time, Chinatown gives you an insight in the Asian culture. The city is full of live and you find many street artists around the harbour.

Voor ons is Montréal de stad met grote contrasten tussen de geschiedenis en het moderne tijdperk. Oude historische huizen en monumenten zij aan zij met moderne gebouwen. Het zelfde geldt voor het transport, een Lamborghini naast een paard met koets. Het stopt niet bij de clash der tijden, Chinatown biedt u ook een inzicht in de Aziatische cultuur. Het is een bruisende stad vol leven, aan de haven vind je veel straatartiesten.

Parc du Mont Royal, Montréal

Parc du Mont Royal is a green area close to the city center of Montréal. It is on a hill and here you find the best view of the skyline of Montréal and it is for free. The park is a nice place to go for walk, see squirrels, or people playing with their dogs. A good place to escape from the city center.

Parc du Mont Royal is een groen eiland dicht bij het stadscentrum van Montréal. Het is gelegen op een heuvel en biedt u het beste zicht op de skyline van Montréal en het is geheel gratis. Een ideale plaats voor een wandeling, het bekijken van mensen met hun honden en zeker niet te vergeten, de talloze eekhoorntjes. Een leuke plaats om eens te ontsnappen aan de drukke stad.

Archives of the Diocese, Montréal

In front of the Anglican Church of Canada Diocese in Montréal you find a building that holds the archives of the Canadian Anglican Church. The building itself is modern, in the mirroring glass you see the church, inside the building you enter a big hall in the shape of a church. It is spectacular. When you try to enter the administration a voice calls upon you, no it is not God himself but a security system that monitors everyone entering. A person on the telephone receiver inquires about your intensions and explains that only the church opposite to the administrative building is open to the public. Two interesting buildings and garden.

Tegenover de Anglicaanse kerk van Canada Diocese in Montréal staat een gebouw waarin alle archieven van de Canadese Anglicaanse kerk worden bewaard. In de reflectie van de glasramen van het moderne gebouw zie je de historische kerk, de inkomhal is indrukwekkend en in de vorm van een kerk. Wanneer je de administratie probeert te bezoeken, wordt je aangesproken door een stem, nee het was niet God, maar een beveiligingssysteem die de toegang tot de administratie bewaakt. Aan de andere kant van de telefoonlijn vraagt een persoon naar je intenties en verwijst je naar de kerk die wel open is voor het publiek. Twee interessante bouwwerken met tuin.

The Notre-Dame Basilica, Montréal

The Notre-Dame Basilica was build between 1824 and 1829. The sanctuary and the altar are just amazing. The sculptures, decorations, the combination with a blue ceiling and floor are very impressive. A National Youth Orchestra of Canada was practicing for a concert. If you want to visit a church or Basilica in Montréal, this is the one you have to select.

De Basiliek van de Notre-Dame is gebouwd tussen 1824 en 1829. Het heiligdom en het altaar zijn ongelooflijk. De standbeelden, versieringen, en de combinatie van blauw in het plafond en de vloer zijn zeer indrukwekkend. Tijdens ons bezoek was er een repetitie van het Nationaal Jeugd Orkest van Canada. Als je een kerk of Basiliek wil bezoeken in Montréal, maak je hiermee de juiste keuze.

Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal, Montréal

The Oratory is a place for prayer founded by Brother André, who believed that you could achieve anything when you believe in God. The Oratory dates from 1904 and is well maintained. As you can see on the pictures, the gardens are colourful and the church interior simple but unique. A place visited by many pilgrims.

De Oratory is een plaatst voor gebed opgericht door Broeder André, die overtuigd was dat je alles kan bereiken indien je geloofd in God. De Oratory werd opgericht in 1904 en is goed onderhouden. Zoals je kan zien op de foto's, de tuinen zijn kleurvol en de kerk heeft een eenvoudig interieur maar toch uniek. Een plaats die wordt bezocht door vele pelgrims.

Organ concert in St. Andrew and St. Paul church, Montréal

We were visiting Montréal on July 29, and are interested in architecture. This is the main reason why we have so many articles on our blog about churches. In the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, there was an organ concert of Han Mi Kang. At first we didn't want to enter because we didn't want to disturb the artist in her concert. The people at the entrance were so friendly and invited us in. We were pleased to here a few plays from Ms. Han Mi Kang. She is very talented and Doctor in Music from the McGill University. Congratulations. We enjoyed your music.

Op 29 juli hebben we Montréal bezocht. Daar we interesse hebben in architectuur, kan je veel artikelen over kerken op onze blog terugvinden. In de kerk van St. Andrew en St. Paul, was er een orgelconcert van Mevrouw Han Mi Kang. Eerst wilden we niet binnengaan om de artieste niet te storen gedurende haar optreden. De mensen aan de ingang waren echter zo vriendelijk en hebben ons uitgenodigd binnen te gaan. We waren blij enkele stukken van Mevrouw Han Mi Kang te hebben gehoord. Ze is zeer getalenteerd en Dokter in de muziek van de McGill universiteit. Proficiat, we hebben genoten van uw muziek.
