Harbourfront and Lake Ontario, Toronto

We went for an evening walk on the Toronto Harbourfront alongside Lake Ontario. From this place you have a nice view of Toronto's financial district and the CN tower. There are many boats on the lake and you see small planes passing by from and to the airport. On the promenade you find several restaurants and bars. It's a good place to have a drink and snack on one of the terraces on a sunny day.

We hebben een avondwandeling gemaakt in het Harbourfront gebied van Toronto langs Lake Ontario. Je ziet hier veel bootjes en je hebt een mooi zicht op het financieel district en de CN Tower van Toronto. Er zijn altijd veel bootjes op het meer en kleine vliegtuigen vliegen van en naar de luchthaven nabij. Op de promenade vind je verschillende restaurants en bars. Het is een uitstekende plaats voor een drankje of snack op een van de terrassen op een zonnige dag.

Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant, Toronto

In Toronto we had dinner in Wayne Gretzky's restaurant. Wayne is a famous ice hockey player who played for the New York Rangers. His restaurant is decorated in an ice hockey theme as you can see on the pictures below. They serve normal Canadian and American food. We had ribs, pizza and a pasta chicken dish. You have the possibility to eat in a normal dining area or in the bar area where each table has its own plasma TV. A pleasant experience.

In Toronto hebben ons avondmaal genuttigd in het restaurant van Wayne Gretzky. Wayne is een beroemde ijshockey speler van de New York Rangers. Zijn restaurant is ingericht met ijshockey thema's zoals je kan zien op onderstaande foto's. Ze serveren hier normaal Canadees en Amerikaans eten. We hebben gekozen voor ribbetjes, pizza en een pasta schotel met kip. Je hebt de mogelijkheid te eten in het gewone restaurant of in de bar waar iedere tafel zijn eigen plasma TV heeft. Een leuke ervaring.

CN Tower, World's Tallest Tower, Toronto

The CN Tower is for us the best attraction of Toronto. When you visit the city, this tower should not be skipped. It's the world's tallest tower (553m) with an observation deck called Sky Pod on a height of 447m. The CN Tower also has two restaurants on 351m and 346m high. The views are spectacular. In the Horizons Bistro, we had a Hamburger for lunch and we enjoyed the view. You also have the possibility to walk across a glass floor at an altitude of 346m. The CN Tower is also recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records with the world highest wine cellar. When visiting you have to take into account a few hours, it is always very busy.

De CN Tower is voor ons de leukste bezienswaardigheid van Toronto. Als je de stad bezoekt, mag je dit zeker niet missen. Het is de hoogste toren van de wereld (553m), met een observatie platform (Sky Pod) op een hoogte van 447m. De CN Tower heeft ook twee restaurants op een hoogte van 351m en 346m. Het uitzicht is spectaculair. In de Horizons Bistro hebben we genoten van een hamburger en het fantastische uitzicht. Je hebt ook de mogelijkheid over een glazen vloer te lopen op een hoogte van 346m. De CN Tower houdt het record voor de hoogste wijnkelder ter wereld (Guinness Book of Records). Als je de toren bezoekt dien je wel rekening te houden met het groot aantal bezoekers, voorzie toch enkele uren.

Casa Loma, A fantastic castle in Toronto

This replica of a medieval castle in Toronto was owned by Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. He build the castle in 1911 and had to let it go again ten years later when he had financial problems. The castle is magnificent from the outside and the gardens are very nice. The interior is less interesting but we were surprised to see how big the castle really was when visiting all the rooms.

De bouw van een middeleeuws uitziend kasteel in 1911 te Toronto werd uitgevoerd voor Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. Na tien jaar, kon hij het kasteel echter niet langer houden omdat hij in financiele problemen was geraakt. De buitenkant en de tuinen van het kasteel zijn uitzonderlijk mooi. Het interieur is niet zo interessant maar we waren verbaast hoe groot het was na alle kamer te hebben bezocht.

General Impressions of Toronto

Toronto is the biggest city in Canada with more than 5 million residents. We enjoyed walking in this city although it was very warm. In this article you see a few photo impressions of the city but we do not cover the main attractions like: the CN tower, Harbour Front and Casa Loma. These items will be covered in future blogarticles.

Toronto is de grootste stad van Canada met meer als 5 miljoen inwoners. We hebben genoten van onze wandelingen niettegenstaande het heel warm was. In dit blog artikel zie je enkele foto impressies van de stad. We behandelen echter niet de CN Tower, Harbour Front en Casa Loma. Deze worden beschreven in latere blogartikelen.
